For Immediate Release:

SQUAMISH RACE IS READY TO GO

One of the most popular races in Squamish BC will return on July 25th this year. The 7th annual Squamish GearJammer, presented by G. Stewart Kerr Ltd., has announced that race registration is open at www.gearjammer.ca, and that racecourse preparation is well under way.

The Squamish GearJammer is the third and final xc mountain bike race in the Test of Metal’s group of events.

The GearJammer is a 52 km point-to-point cross country mountain bike race that starts near Alice Lake (5 km North of Squamish,) and finishes in Rose Park near downtown Squamish. The course is a collection of favorite Squamish single-track that both serious racers and recreational mountain bikers have enjoyed in the past. Unlike many cross country races, the GearJammer contains much more single-track than double track or road. After the initial dirt road climb (used to separate racers before they enter the trails), 80% of the time spent on the course contains some of the most challenging cross country single-track in the area.

“If you want to race the best trails in Squamish, you want to race the GearJammer,” said Dwayne Kress, an Elite racer from Squamish. Dwayne finished fifth overall in this year’s Test of Metal.

Those familiar with Squamish riding will recognize many of the course’s trail names: “Ed’s Bypass”, “Middle Power Smart”, “ReCycle”, “Pseudo-Tsuga”, “The Plunge”, and “7 Stitches”. Those entrants who are not familiar with the area will soon be able to see examples of what the trails look like from a racer’s perspective, as the course is being recorded in high definition with a helmet cam by local company, Radical Pinner Movies. They expect to have samples on line at www.gearjammer.ca by the fall of 2009.
